A lot of people who get through the years of #toddlerlife are just happy to have survived. We so get that … but we’re a little different. We keep going back …
We raised 4 kids of our own. The first 3 came along fairly quickly, so at one point we had 3 under the age of 5. Then we took a break for about 5 years, before adding our little “afterthought”. Today he’s in high school, and the other 3 have all started their adult lives.
So, we’re at the point when lots of people start thinking about an emptier nest, grandkids, and maybe a bit more time for [FILL IN THE BLANK].
Not us. Call us crazy, but …
We went back and trained to become foster parents, with a special focus on toddlers. As we write this we have a really sweet 18 month old girl with us.
Fostering has some real challenges, but it is one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever done.
Alli herself was fostered as a baby, and was then adopted. Fortunately, it turned into a happy story. She had a wonderful childhood with a loving family. And because of that, she’s always had a dream in her heart to one day “pay forward” the love she received to some other kids in similar situations.
And so, that’s the perspective we’re writing this blog from. On the one hand, we have quite a bit of experience to share from our two and a half decades of parenting. But on the other hand, we’re right back in the trenches ourselves! Diapers … bibs and bottles … broken sleep.
And you know what? It’s kind of the same, but different every time!
So, we’ll get into all kinds of things you face with little ones …
- Getting Babies to Sleep Through the Night
- Potty Training
- Teaching Kids to Read
- Our Favorite Time-and-Money-Saving Hacks
- Date Nights for Mommy and Daddy!
